Naval Defence

We design and manufacture high quality valves and regulators for surface ships and submarines in the naval defence market. Backed by over 60 years of well-honed experience in providing pressure reduction and fluid control solutions on board marine vessels, we work in collaboration with customers to design solutions configured to match the application requirements.

To meet the demands of the naval marine market, our products are supplied in a range of materials including bronze, nickel, aluminium, and stainless steel and are tested to meet requirements for shock, vibration and noise.

Surface Ships

On surface ships, our equipment is in use across a range of applications including diesel engine air start, gas turbine start, torpedo launch, deluge systems, breathing air supply, automatic cylinder charging for breathing air and diving gas, and general pressure reduction.

Submarines

On submarines, we supply fluid control equipment for applications including inter hull fluid transfer, ballast tank blow, divers air supply, submarine escape, weapons handling, diesel engine air start and emergency breathing air.

On nuclear submarines, we provide bellows sealed valves for use on steam systems.

Applications

Pressure reducing stations

We combine our core range of regulators and valves to design pressure reducing station configured to meet customer requirements. Pressure reducing stations combine pressure regulators, pressure relief valves, needle valves and pressure gauges in a single solution. They act by reducing pressure in one or two stages depending on the pressure drop required and the gas in question.

Reducing stations are often used to provide a reliable integrated package to control the delivery pressure of starting air for ships diesel and gas turbine engines. Air flow commences when the solenoid actuated stop valve is commanded to open. The dome loaded pressure regulator within the module provides repeatable, accurate pressure control to the starter motor. The regulator is protected from contamination with an upstream filter and the downstream system is protected from over pressure via the integrated relief valve, which is matched to the regulator.

Air start modules

The Diesel Engine Air Start Modules are a reliable integrated solution to control delivery pressure to the air start unit on a ships’ diesel engine. The dome loaded pressure regulator within the module provides repeatable, accurate pressure control to the starter motor. The regulator is protected from contamination with an upstream filter and the downstream system is protected from over pressure via the integrated relief valve, which is matched to the regulator. Air flow commences when the solenoid actuated stop valve is opened.

Bottle head assemblies

Pressure isolation, regulation and relief are all functions commonly built into bottle head assemblies. A typical bottle head assembly consists combines pressure relief valves, stop valves, isolation valves and pressure gauges in a compact manifold. We offer a range of existing designs but also offer custom versions of this product line to meet our customers’ requirements.

Isolation Valves

Balanced Stop valves for low operating torque and high reliability. These are available in a range of sizes from 1/4” and generally suitable for service pressures up to 414 bar.

Solenoid Valves

Solenoid valves are primarily used for piloting larger actuated valves open and closed. Our Maxseal valve range is widely regarded as being amongst the most reliable valves on the market.

Check Valves

Check valves are used for both high and low pressure applications onboard surface ships and submarines. Our N08 range of check valves are available in 316L Stainless steel as standard and Aluminium Bronze with connection sizes starting at ¼”.

Bellow Sealed Valves

Used in reactor primary cooling circuits for isolation, bellow sealed valves operate at high temperature and provide excellent leak integrity.

As the fluid is often steam these valves are usually made from carbon steel with hard faced seats.

Relief Valves

Relief valves are offered to complement our regulators and in particular as part of bespoke solutions such as reducing stations. Various materials and pressure ranges are available to suit customers’ applications.

Globe Valves

We offer a range of balanced globe stop valves either as discreet items or as cartridge valves within reducing stations. Available in Aluminium Bronze and Stainless Steel with operating pressures up to 420 bar.
